History

The council of the Dutch Reformed Church of Alberton West received a calling to embark on an evangelical mission in the Northern Cape, specifically in Griekwastad. After several meetings with the community in Griekwastad, it became clear that the socio-economic circumstances are dire, especially regarding the needs of young children, youth and women. The challenge was to first of all establish an awareness of hope in Griekwastad and, building upon this awareness, assist the community in their economic and social development.

Where we are now

The organisation currently have 6 permanent staff members and have a monthly turnover of approximately R30 000.
The Non Profit Company was constituted in 2017 and our first program, being our ECD Centre opened its doors on the 10th of April 2018.
Within the first 7 months we managed to establish a quality ECD Centre with 31 enrolled children and a growing waiting list of children. We opened a second classroom in the beginning of 2019 and currently have 41 enrolled children.
A Household chicken and vegetable program was successfully implemented.
A number of successful holiday programs for the youth are presented during school holidays.

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Voetspore van Hoop emerged out of a pursuit from Alberton West Dutch Reformed Church to inspire and support the community of Griekwastad, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in 2017, we’re an organization driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and strong Christian foundations.

Vision:

A safe Griekwastad where the children and the rest of the Griekwastad community are educated, developed and supported to ensure a sustainable future for themselves, their families and the town of Griekwastad.

Mission:

To ensure the future and transform the lives of the children of Griekwastad as well as the poor and marginalized individuals in Griekwastad by providing them with education through our ECD Centre, Adult Education, household gardens and income generating programs.
