WHO WE ARE
Our Roots
"Voetspore van Hoop" is Afrikaans for "Footprints of Hope" and this is exactly what we as an organisation want to do. We want to leave footprints of hope in and around the Griekwastad community and we want to help others to do the same.
Noord Kaap Evangelisasie NPC t/a Voetspore van Hoop/Footprints of Hope is a faith based registered Non Profit Company dedicated to assist the community of Griekwastad in the Northern Cape, South Africa to empower themselves with skills and knowledge to enable them to live self-sustainably and rise above the harsh economic circumstances within their town. In order to achieve this a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between Alberton West Dutch Reformed Church, the Dutch Reformed Church of Griekwastad and the United Reformed Church in Griekwastad.
The biggest need identified and communicated by the Griekwastad community is the lack of enough Early Childhood Development (ECD) opportunities for the many pre-school children in the town. This is the reason for the first program of Voetspore van Hoop being implemented, being the Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD Centre) which opened its doors in April 2018.

Investing in our community
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies for dealing with the challenges in the community. Investing in our children is something that we take very seriously, and our team is working hard each and every day to make a positive impact.The years from birth to age 5 are viewed as a critical period for developing the foundations for thinking, behaving, and emotional well-being of a child. Child development experts indicate it is during these years that children develop linguistic, cognitive, social, emotional, and regulatory skills that predict their later functioning in many domains.Children who are economically disadvantaged have limited readiness for school activities in quantitative and qualitative ways. Economic deprivation during the preschool years is indeed harmful to children’s development.Through providing children access to quality early childhood development education programs the course of their future can and will be steered for success!
A very important fact:
Investment in early childhood development has been shown to yield the highest rate of return on investment in human capital development.

COMMUNITY HOUSEHOLD VEGETABLE GARDENS
At Voetspore van Hoop, we are dedicated to increase our efforts in addressing different social issues. Addressing poverty and unemployment is by no means an easy feat, but through cooperation and community empowerment we believe we can facilitate progress in this area.
Our household chicken and vegetable training and mentoring program is but one of the methods we use to accomplish success in addressing this need. This program provides disadvantaged individuals with the knowledge, skills, and physical means to own and manage their own vegetable gardens and chicken coops within the community, on their own doorstep. Through this program individuals can provide their families with vegetables, chicken meat and eggs and also earn an income for themselves and thus provide for their own families. Currently there are 10 households in the community part of this program. This program is very valuable to ensure food security within the community.
We have our training and demonstration gardens here at our centre and we are privileged to be able to suupply in 95% of our own need for vegetables for the meals of our ECD centre. Children in our ECD centre receive 2 balanced meals and 2 snacks every day.
COMMUNITY HOUSEHOLD CHICKEN PRODUCTION
With this initiative, our goal is to promote great opportunities for those in need. With access to the right resources, people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential.
A household who can produce it's own vegetables, chickens and eggs, especially in a town where fresh produce is very scarce and expensive is a household who will save a substantial amount of money every month as well as be a much healthier and well fed family.
Our training en demonstration chicken coops here at our centre produce enough eggs for our own use in our ECD centre and to sell as an alternative income for us.

YOUTH HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES
We offer Holiday programs during the school holidays for the youth. These programs have a strong Christian Evangelical theme and are presented in conjunction with sport and life skills activities.
In order for us to continue to address these social needs in the Griekwastad community and to continue to expand in the services we render we need financial and social investment from as many stakeholders as possible.
Griekwastad is a small community with enormous social needs but the fact that it is a small town, provides the opportunities that a substantial and lasting impact can be made on the vast number of social challenges faced by this community on a daily basis.
